UpNext up on our Oscar Predictions list is a little category called Best Animated Film. Now, over the past few years, it’s pretty much been a given that the winner of this category will be whatever film Pixar decided to shovel into theaters the previous year. But seeing as 2009 was quite possibly the best year of animation on record, Pixar could be facing some of its heftiest competition yet. Here’s how the nominees break down:

Best Animated Feature

I know, I didn’t see The Secret of Kells either (though I heard it’s a really splendid little flick), and if it were up to me, the pretty fabulous Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballswould’ve also been nominated. Both Coraline and Fantastic Mr. Fox surprised a lot of people with their quirky edge and fabulous animation, and while Pixar’s Up is, of course, the favorite, there’s no denying that this is one of the most competitive lists of animated films we’ve seen in quite some time.

My Prediction: How do you bet against Up and Pixar? Even though everything inside me wants to throw Coraline a bone, it’s hard to do that knowing Up is right there alongside it. So I’m throwing all of my fake money down and going with Up.

Which film do you think will win the Best Animated Feature category?
