While most people probably didn't see the 2006 Nicolas Cage film The Wicker Man, the actor revealed during a web chat with Empire Online that he was open to returning for a sequel.
"I would like to hook up with one of the great Japanese filmmakers, like the master who made Ringu and take The Wicker Man to Japan, except this time, he's a ghost."
Would Hideo Nakata (the "master who made Ringu") or Takashi Shimizu who has 7500, a horror-thriller starring Ryan Kwanten and Amy Smart due out this summer, be interested in working with Cage? Time will tell, though based on the film's dismal critical and audience reaction, it'd be hard-pressed to find a studio that would want to make it.
Cage also revealed that he had turned down a pair of roles in movies that eventually became super-lucrative franchises.
"There were two movies that asked me to go to Australia or New Zealand for long periods of time. One was Lord of the Rings and one was The Matrix. But I was actively involved at that time raising my family and I couldn't really take that time out."
One can only wonder what the Bizzaro world looks like with Cage starring as Neo in The Matrix and as a part of Peter Jackson's multi-billion dollar franchise. If anything, he wouldn't be chatting with Empire about reviving a reviled movie from four years ago.
