A Wrinkle in Time: Oprah Winfrey is in final negotiations to star in in A Wrinkle in Time, a big-screen adaptation of the Newberry Award-winning fantasy novel by Madeleine L'Engle. Ava DuVernay will direct; she previously teamed with Winfrey on Selma (above). Academy Award winner Jennifer Lee (Frozen) has written the screenplay; the book follows a young girl who searches for her missing father, a scientist "working on a mysterious project." [Deadline]
Black Panther: Lupita Nyong'o, who will costar in Marvel's Black Panther, says that the plot will revolve around a challenge to the leadership of the heroic Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) by "two foes who come together and so Black Panther gets the help of the C.I.A. and the Dora Milaje." Nyong'o will portray a member of the Dora Milaje, an elite corps of special forces. Michael B. Jordan also stars; Ryan Coogler (Creed) will direct. The movie is set for release on July 6, 2018. The Division: Jessica Chastain (The Huntsman: Winter's War, above) is in negotiations to star in The Division. Jake Gyllenhaal is already on board to star in and produce the project, inspired by the Ubisoft video game about a government agent searching New York City for the origins of a devastating smallpox epidemic. Split Trailer: Say what you want about M. Night Shyamalan, his latest, Split, looks pretty promising -- especially since it reunites him with producer Jason Blum (The Visit) and brings on cinematographer Mike Gioulakis (It Follows).
