Catherine the Great: Barbra Streisand will direct a biographical portrait of 18th century Russian empress Catherine the Great. The project is still in its early stages, with plans to focus on Catherine as a young woman trapped in an unhappy marriage to an abusive husband. The actress turned filmmaker last directed The Mirror Has Two Faces in 1996 (above). [THR]

 

The Wolfman

The Wolf Man: We already knew that Universal planned to release a new version of The Mummy on March 24, 2017, with a second, unidentified installment in the rebooted classic monster series penciled in for March 30, 2018. Now it's been reported that a new edition of The Wolf Man (2010 version above) will fill the slot. Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners) was hired to write the script in November 2014; he was also just tapped to write the latest Friday the 13th movie. [Box Office Mojo via Fangoria]

Beauty and the Beast: Ian McKellen has been happy to talk about his role as Cogsworth, who is transformed into a clock in Disney's upcoming live-action version of Beauty and the Beast. Most recently, he joked: "I have written my own song, but it didn't make it in." On the spot, he then sang a few lines for a possible solo performance: "My name is Cogsworth/And I'm a clock/Tick-tock," adding: "I call it 'Beauty and the Clock.'" The movie is due out in 2017. Exposed

Exposed Trailer: Keanu Reeves and Ana de Armas, who recently appeared together in Eli Roth's thriller Knock Knock, reteam in the crime drama Exposed. Reeves plays a police detective, with de Armas portraying a woman who believes she has experienced a miracle; Mira Sorvino also stars. The first, gritty trailer has now been released; the movie opens in theaters on January 22. [Movieclips]
