He might seem too good to be true. And if he's in a thriller, you should probably just bet that Mr. Right is a Mr. Wrong beneath his charming façade. That's the premise behind the three-hander The Perfect Guy, which stars Sanaa Lathan, Michael Ealy and Morris Chestnut. With this torrid tale set to hit theaters, we thought we'd look back at some the best bad movie boyfriends that we’ve fallen for.

Mark Wahlberg, Fear (1996)

David and Nicole's love story started out like Romeo & Juliet, a fiery romance that her dear old dad just couldn't understand. But sometimes father does know best.

Why We Fell for Him: David was dark, dedicated and knew how to make a roller coaster ride unforgettable.

Why We Feared Him: This bad boy went bonkers, beating his own chest to frame Nicole's dad for assault. And that was just the beginning.

Jason Schwartzman, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)

For Scott Pilgrim, falling for the candy-colored Ramona Flowers was easy. Surviving the lethal attention of her evil exes, lead by the nefarious Gideon Graves? That's next level.

Why We Fell for Him: Like Ramona, we're not immune to Gideon's undeniable hipster appeal and that smug smile.

Why We Feared Him: Creating an assassin kill club dedicated to keeping your ex-girlfriend from moving on? Messing with Ramona's head (literally)? That dumb white blazer? Pick a reason.

Christian Slater, Heathers (1988)

When Veronica grew tired of the mean-girl antics of the Heathers, she found angst-fueled fun with outsider J.D. Together they relish in revenge, until J.D. takes it too far.

Why We Fell for Him: He's got a smile that screams trouble, a way with words, and those '80s locks you'd kill to run your fingers through.

Why We Feared Him: At breakneck speed, J.D. went from killer cute to serial killer with aims of graduating to mass murderer.

Billy Zane, Titanic (1997)

This epic spun one of Hollywood's most iconic love stories. But before Jack met Rose, she was engaged to a callous and cowardly Cal Hockley.

Why We Fell for Him: Sure, Jack's the movie's most adored male lead. But you can't deny the dark charisma of crazy Zane.

Why We Feared Him: With people dying all around him, Cal cares about two things: his own survival and murdering Jack. His supposed lady love Rose is a distant third.

Skeet Ulrich, Scream (1996)

Sidney Prescott had a lot to deal with between her often-absent dad, her grief over her mysteriously murdered mom, and a string of killings amongst her classmates. At least she had solace in her hunky beau, Billy Loomis.

Why We Fell for Him: Billy brought back the moody dude bangs made famous by Heathers' J.D. Plus, he was so patient with spooked Sidney about her fears and her sexual boundaries. Until…

Why We Feared Him: Billy's mommy issues drove him to a big-screen betrayal so scary it launched a horror franchise.

Ryan Guzman, The Boy Next Door (2015)

Feeling low after a painful break from her husband, Claire Peterson found some much needed--and scandalous--fun with Noah Sandborn, the brawny boy next door. But when she makes it clear their romance was of the one-night variety, it's not so easy to get away from this nosy neighbor.

Why We Fell For Him: Noah's handsome and handy, both around the house and in the bedroom.

Why We Feared Him: "I love your mother's cookies." Dude, boundaries.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Match Point (2005)

Wealthy, charming and handsome, Chris Wilton seems the kind of catch a girl would be lucky to land. Unfortunately, for both his fiancée, Chloe, and his mistress, Nola, Chris is not a one-woman man.

Why We Fell for Him: Aside from being crazy sexy, Chris loves to lay down dreamy promises of unending love and luxury.

Why We Feared Him: When his luck begins to run out, Chris will do anything to save his marriage. Even if that means murder.

Anthony Michael Hall, Edward Scissorhands (1990)

A kindhearted outsider who stumbles into pastel-colored suburbia, Edward soon befriends the town's sweetheart -- much to the chagrin of her conniving bad-boy beau.

Why We Fell for Him: Look, our hearts belong to Eddie, but it's hard to deny that Hall's brawny bully didn't have his own arrogant allure.

Why We Feared Him: Robbing your own dad is pretty low, but then letting the local weirdo take the blame? Jim proved he was worse than a bad boy; he was a villain.

David Carradine, Kill Bill (2003)

Some guys just don't know how to let go. When Bill's lead assassin and beloved Beatrix bailed on him, he laid waste to her life on her wedding day in a gory spectacle that proved a catalyst for two volumes of revenge actioner.

Why We Fell for Him: As Bill is introduced first and foremost as a brutal, cold-blooded killer, we didn't really fall for him first. But it's hard to deny the rugged charm of a monologue-prone Carradine.

Why We Feared Him: The movie opened with him shooting the mother of his child in the head on her wedding day to another man. We feared Bill before we even saw his face.

Ryan Phillippe, Cruel Intentions (1999)

In this contemporary adaptation of Dangerous Liaisons, Sebastian Valmont is a poor little rich boy bored by all but the most twisted dares from his lusty stepsister, Kathryn. That's how he decides to seduce the virginal Annette Hardgrove, beginning a romance that will forever change all three of their lives.

Why We Fell for Him: There's just something about a bad boy. Phillippe's curls and pouty bottom lip don't hurt either.

Why We Feared Him: Could Sebastian really be so cruel as to court an abstinence advocate just so he could bed his stepsister? Serious squick factor.
