With Miley Cyrus about to deliver a new Hannah Montana movie to her loyal (and very large) fanbase, the singer-turned-actress has made it clear early that she’s not interested in reprising the character for a sequel. This comes as Variety reports today that Cyrus will star in a new film called The Last Song, written by Nicholas Sparks (who’s known for his weepy romance novels, including The Notebook and Nights in Rodanthe), about a rebellious teenager who’s sent to spend the summer with her estranged father (who hasn’t been cast yet).

Unlike his other adaptations, Disney asked Sparks to write the screenplay for this film specifically so that Cyrus could star in it. Could this be the movie that takes Cyrus from tween flicks to something a little more adult?  I say maybe. While she’s ruling out another Hannah Montana movie, however, Miley is not nixing her Hannah Montana TV series, which she’s already attached to for at least one more season. Cyrus says, “We got really lucky with having the material to make one movie. I don't know if I would do another (Hannah Montana) film, but I would love to do another season. That would be what we would all agree on."

Either way, it would appear her film career is about to take off – especially if Disney can find a way to make a slew of money off a Cyrus character that isn’t at all related to Hannah Montana. What do you think? Does she have the acting chops to go far without the character that made her famous?
