Like it or not, there will come a day when Robert Downey Jr. will no longer be playing Iron Man. When that time comes (and supposing Marvel wants to continue featuring the character in future movies), someone is going to need to play the role.
To that end, Mark Wahlberg says that he would like to play the genius billionaire playboy philanthropist.
In an interview with Yahoo Movies to promote 2 Guns, Wahlberg said, "I would like to take over the Iron Man franchise for Robert Downey, [but] it's one of those things where I kind of like playing real people, [so] I've never been asked."
This doesn't mean that Wahlberg hasn't been talked about for a superhero role. He says that "once I was kind of being talked about for the Robin role in Batman Forever." He laughed about the Joel Schumacher franchise that has since culminated in the worst Batman movie ever, Batman & Robin. "Someone dodged a bullet!"
While Downey recently locked in a new contract to play Iron Man in Avengers 2 and Avengers 3, would you like to someday see Wahlberg in the role or will Tony Stark always be synonymous with Downey Jr.?
