While Rango was named best animated feature by the National Board of Review last week and Tintin is set to open up domestically in a couple weeks with $221 million already in its pockets, another animated blockbuster cleaned house during the Annie Award nominations announcement this morning. Kung Fu Panda 2 chalked up 12 Annie Award nominations, including best animated feature, effects, animation...if it's a feature film category, chances are the movie is nominated.

The Annie Awards are presented by the International Animated Film Association and are recognized as one of the most prestigious awards animated productions can receive.

Other major releases contending for best animated feature include Arthur Christmas, Cars 2, Puss in Boots, Rango, Rio and Tintin as well as foreign animated films A Cat in Paris, Arrugas and Chico & Rita.

In 2008, the first Kung Fu Panda feature tied for the most nominations ever with 16 and went 16-for-16, and beat eventual Oscar winner Wall-E for best feature.

Winners will be announced February 4 in Los Angeles. You can view the full list of nominees here.
