With Captain America: The Winter Solider and Guardians of the Galaxy currently in production and Joss Whedon typing up the final draft for Avengers: Age of Ultron, our eyes are moving forward to Marvel's Phase Three set of films.
Ant-Man leads off the group of films in the next phase of films and director Edgar Wright recently returned from vacation to tweet a picture of the character. Fans have been hoping for a potential actor to be attached to the film and today Variety reports that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd have emerged as front-runners for the role.
The trade reports that the two actors will meet with Marvel and Wright once more before a final decision is made and that there is a potential of a "another actor" being in the mix, though that actor is never identified.
It appears Wright and Marvel are looking for more of an everyman-type actor for the role, rather than a muscular, wise-cracking hero like Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans or Robert Downey Jr.
Rudd is certainly an interesting choice given his comedy background while JGL appeared in the final Christopher Nolan Batman film.
Marvel recently moved up Ant-Man to July 31, 2015. The film was cowritten by Wright and Attack the Block director Joe Cornish.
Which actor do you think should get the role and who do you think this mystery third actor is?
