Which film do you consider to be the greatest remake of all time? In a new survey over at LoveFilm.com, they asked over 1500 movie fans that question and in first place was the 2006 James Bond masterpiece Casino Royale – which, technically, was a remake of a sillier 1967 version of the same film (even though the two don’t resemble one another at all). Casino Royale, in case you didn’t know, was also the first James Bond novel penned by Ian Fleming.

It wasn’t an easy win for the super spy thriller, as the remake of Ocean’s 11 starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon followed closely behind in the number two spot. Rounding out the top three was Peter Jackson’s 2005 blockbuster remake of King Kong, which I wasn’t too crazy about, but could see why it might belong on a list like this. A few films not mentioned that also deserve to be part of a conversation about the greatest remakes of all time include The Fly (1986), The Thomas Crown Affair (1999), Cape Fear (1991), Scarface (1983), The Departed (2007) and Dawn of the Dead (2004).
