From Stacie Hougland: If you're an indie film buff in the L.A. area, you might want to grab a seat at the Los Angeles United Film Festival, a three-day weekend of independent films and shorts and filmmmaker Q&A sessions. Among the films being shown are a documentary of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Union: The Business Behind Getting High, starring folks like comedian Joe Rogan (who opens the fest on Friday night), a behind-the-scenes look at competetive weiner dog racing, and Darius Goes West, about a teen with MS who travels cross country to convince MTV's "Pimp My Ride" to customize his wheelchair. Special appearances by William H. Macy and Felicity Huff, as well as composers Danny Elfman and Alan Menken.

The fun gets going tonight (April 17) with a party in Beverly Hills that's open to the public for a mere five bucks. Tickets for the fest are $10.
