‘Tis the season; not merely for holiday spirit or raiding your wallet to shop for presents. This is the time to create seasonal treats with a twist like this gingerbread house. In honor of the cinematic return of Charles M. Schulz’s oh-so-beloved Peanuts and the gang, whip up an adorable (and delicious) gingerbread house inspired by Snoopy’s iconic red doghouse.
What you’ll need:
Gingerbread dough (most recipes call for flour, brown sugar, molasses, baked soda, ground ginger and cinnamon)
Cookie sheets
Paper for making patterns
Pen
Ruler
Red icing
Black icing pen
1 Snoopy Plus (optional)
Directions:
Step 1: Make the gingerbread dough. You can find simple recipes online. I used this recipe from the Food Network.
Step 2: Create the pattern for the gingerbread house pieces on regular white paper.
Step 3: Roll out the dough on the cookie sheet. Place the pattern pieces on top of the dough and cut around the edge directly on the cookie sheet. You’ll cut two of each piece.
Step 4. Bake the pieces and let them cool.
Step 5. When cool, cover one side of the pieces with red icing. Then add thin black lines on all the pieces (along the wide sides).
Step 6. Apply extra red frosting on the right and left edges of the square pieces (piece number one) and marry those with the front and back pieces (piece number three) and stick them together. Apply more red frosting to the triangle edges of the number-three pieces and carefully push the large roof pieces onto piece number three.
Step 7. Let dry. And if you have a plush or toy Snoopy, pose him next to his new home!
