It's been over a decade since the dinosaurs of Jurassic Park III stomped all over movie screens, but next year the franchise will make its triumphant return to theaters with a new story called Jurassic World, due out on June 12, 2015. While we knew that Jurassic World would feature dinosaurs, other plot details have been kept secret -- until now.
In a new interview with /Film, director Colin Trevorrow confirms that the movie "takes place in a fully functional park on Isla Nubar" off the coast of Costa Rica; the premise is that people are "already kind of over" the reality that dinosaurs again walk the Earth. What happens then?
Trevorrow films a scene for 'Jurassic World'
Here's how Trevorrow describes the dinosaur park, which actually sounds like an awesome summer vacation spot, minus the bad stuff that's bound to go down once audiences arrive next June.
"You arrive by ferry from Costa Rica. It has elements of a biological preserve, a safari, a zoo, and a theme park. There is a luxury resort with hotels, restaurants, nightlife and a golf course. And there are dinosaurs. Real ones. You can get closer to them than you ever imagined possible. It’s the realization of John Hammond’s dream, and I think you’ll want to go there."
The movie, which picks up 22 years after the events in Jurassic Park, will "tell a bold new story that doesn’t rely on a proven formula," according to Trevorrow. We'll find out just how different it is when those dinosaurs crash theaters on June 12, 2015.
