It’s that time of the year again – when the leaves turn brown, the air gets chilly, and Halloween candy crowds the store shelf. There’s really no better time to talk about iconic horror villain Michael Myers, something producer Malek Akkad did recently – giving fans a status update on the long-in-development third film in the rebooted Halloween franchise.
Akkad (the son of original producer Moustapha Akkad) was in Orlando for Universal’s annual Halloween Horror Nights event and he took time to explain where the rumored third film is in the development cycle.
“It’s been a joy to work with so many creative people – 10 films. We’re working on 11 as we speak. We’re working on a script right now. A new draft – perfect timing – is supposed to hit the day before Halloween. Hopefully my Halloween night reading will be a good read.”
The producer didn’t elaborate on who was writing the new script, but we can at least tell the project is still alive on some level. It’s been five long years since fans last saw Myers on the silver screen, brutally gutting anyone who crossed his path in Rob Zombie’s Halloween II.
That film grossed $40 million globally, spawning instant talk of a third installment to be written and directed by Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer, but it never quite came together. Will this new script be the one to reunite Michael and the beleaguered citizens of Haddonfield? Better lock your doors until we know for sure.
