You know awards season is in full swing when we start receiving lists of movies that will be eligible for an Academy Award®. Variety reports that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the 20 animated feature films that will be vying for the golden statue during the 87th annual ceremony — scheduled to take place on February 22, 2015. “The list of submissions is increasing because other countries are realizing the value of Oscar® recognition in this category, where there is far less competition than in the foreign-language race, which this year received 83 submissions,” writes Variety.

The animated category includes movies that feature hand-drawn animation, CGI and stop-motion. It’s anyone’s game, here, but Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s charming Lego film, which boasts comedy for all ages, dazzling animation, and big personality, is probably an early front-runner, at least according to fans.
