Bring Alice in Wonderland’s Mad Hatter to life this Halloween, and have yourself a mad tea party!
Before and After: My son and I had such a fun time re-creating this look. We used Johhny Depp’s version as the inspiration and found that it was actually not that complicated to do. If you’d like to try this out, here’s what to do:
Exfoliate and moisturize your skin. You want your white makeup to go on smoothly. Use a foundation brush to apply your makeup. I used the white found in the Kryolan Rainbow Wheel. Don’t worry about getting the paint thick the first time. Just apply your base. You can reapply later. My son’s face got itchy a few times, so this brush is handy for touch-ups.
Johnny’s Depp Mad Hatter character had one pink eyelid and a blue one with red circles under his eyes. I used the red found in the Kryolan Rainbow wheel and lightly dabbed under the eye blending with the white. For the lids, you can use any bright blue and pink eye shadow.
I did a bit of contouring on the nose and added a wig and eyebrows. To make the eyebrows, I cut a piece from the wig and glued them above my son’s real brow with eyelash glue.
Here’s a close-up of the contour. It was also added to the cheekbones. This was all done with the Kryolan red and a blending brush. I also added a dark mauve lip color similar to the one Depp wore.
I brushed out the wig and pinned the some of the hair to the rim of the hat to give it shape.
The wig and hat are attached. I got it at a local Halloween store. The ribbon on the hat was really long, so I cut it and created a bow. We used one of my fiance’s orange shirts and a vintage jacket I have in my closet from my ‘90s grunge days.
Pinky’s up! It’s team time! Now tell me, why is a raven like a writing desk?
