The first images from the upcoming Poltergeist remake have arrived online ahead of the film's debut trailer, due this Friday. And for you fans of the original 1982 version, the pics might look a little familiar.

Director Gil Kenan told USA Today that "The film is super scary. And it's scary on its own terms." And while we assume that means this new take on the story of a family living in a house at the epicenter of a gateway to the Other Side will have plenty of original ideas up its sleeve, we can't forget it's a remake. And like all remakes, it does need to call back to the original Steven Spielberg-produced movie as well. You'll notice all of the images here are references to spooky scenes from the original.

Check out the rest of the images below, then swing back here later this week for the trailer. Poltergeist comes to theaters (in 3D) on July 24.
