Fox has some good news for fans of two of its geekier genre properties: Alien: Covenant and The Predator now have release dates.
Here's everything we know so far:
Alien: Covenant
Release date: August 4, 2017
Directed by: Ridley Scott
Written by: A combo of people that, so far, includes Michael Green (Smallville), Jack Paglen (Transcendence) and John Logan (Skyfall)
Starring: Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Demian Bichir, Danny McBride, Jussie Smollet, Amy Seimetz and Billy Crudup
What else do we know: It's expected to be a sequel to Prometheus that takes place a decade after that film's end. It's about a ship called Covenant that lands on a planet whose sole occupant is the android David (Michael Fassbender). Originally it was believed that Noomi Rapace would also be returning in some capacity, but recent casting announcements have confirmed that she is not coming back, though they have not confirmed if that's because her character has been killed off or is simply on another planet.
The Predator (tentative title)
Release date: March 2, 2018
Directed by: Shane Black (Iron Man 3) is attached
Written by: Shane Black and Fred Dekker (Monster Squad)
Starring: Nobody as of yet, but we'll go out on a limb and say that the Predator will be in it.
What else do we know: Not a whole lot, unfortunately. So far those involved with the project have alluded to it not being a franchise reboot, but an "inventive sequel." Most recently, producer John Davis said that Black and Dekker's script is "something you don’t expect and you’re going to say, ‘This is the most entertaining way to reinvent a franchise.’"
