Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Rapunzel and Jack and the Bean Stalk -- we are no strangers to these classic fairy tale characters. Into the Woods takes these Brothers Grimm stars and thrusts them into a thoroughly modern tale of curses, lessons and songs, lots of songs. In celebration of this new look at the old, we have five craft projects for young and old!
1. Cinderella Apron
While most little girls may dream of Cinderella’s ball gown and glass slippers, there is the more humble home life that plays a big part in Cinderella’s story. To celebrate the cleaning, scrubbing and sewing of this soon-to-be princess, you can make your daughter a Cinderella-inspired apron. Perfect attire for doing chores, don’t you think? Check out the pattern for this simple and stylish apron from Etsy seller QueenElizabethAprons.
2. Little Red Riding Hood Felt Figure
How adorable is this Little Red Riding Hood doll? Felt is a wonderful fabric for beginning sewers since it sturdy, inexpensive and forgiving. While you could try to “wing it” when making your own Little Red Riding doll, we love the easy to use pattern available from Etsy seller Typing with Tea (bonus: it come with an adorable little wolf too).
3. A Simple Rapunzel Tower
This is such an easy, yet satisfying, craft. First, grab an empty paper towel roll or several empty toilet paper rolls (taped together) and cover with construction paper. Make a small cone from paper and secure to the top for the roof. Then, cut out a little window for your Rapunzel.

4. Jack and the Beanstalk Growth Chart
This is a very clever way to keep track of growing kids. You can make your own by painting a beanstalk on your wall or making one from wood or sturdy cardboard. If your beanstalk skills aren’t up to par, order this customizable stalk with your child’s name from Etsy seller Birch Tree Kids.
5. The Big Bad Wolf Plush Animal
The Wolf will be one of the big draws for Into the Woods (since he is portrayed by the one and only Johnny Depp), so of course we had to include a Wolf craft. This stuffie is far more cute than creepy (not to mention easy to make) thanks to the pattern designer MrsMaCadoo. You can find the pattern for this easy to make Wolf plush toy at Etsy right here.
