Dawn of the Planet of the Apes must be really good. Shortly after Fox began screening the director's cut of the film for studio folks and investors, Reeves has been brought back to not only direct but also write the next Planet of the Apes movie.
Deadline reports that the directing deal is done with writing deals being worked on. Reeves will likely move right into the third film which Fox has tagged as a top priority.
Dawn will arrive in theaters July 11, 2014 and stars Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke and Keri Russell. Andy Serkis is reprising his role of Caesar, the intelligent ape that leads a breakout from a lab in the first film. In the sequel, the survivors face off against Caesar's growing army.
Reeves has previously directed Cloverfield and Let Me In and there's a high degree of anticipation in seeing how he continues the story established in Rupert Wyatt's Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
A teaser trailer was released last month and featured a slow moving close-up of Caesar. His previous two films speak for themselves and having a director continue with a story they've just wrapped bodes well. Expect a better look at Dawn soon, especially with the Super Bowl drawing near.
