Queen of Katwe explores the life of a young chess prodigy and how her love and mastery of the game lifts her up through life. Selling spices on the streets of Katwe, these “number one spice,” cupcakes are vanilla topped with sea salt and chocolate chess pieces, all served up on an edible chess board.

Queen of Katwe Chess Cupcakes

You’ll need:

Frosted cupcakes

Sea salt

1 chocolate chess mold 

 

Chocolate chess pieces ingredients:

6 ounces white chocolate chips

6 ounces dark chocolate chips

 

Chocolate chess board ingredients:

2 (4 oz) Ghirardelli white chocolate bars

2 (4 oz) Ghirardelli semisweet chocolate bars

In separate heatproof dishes, melt the white chocolate chips and dark chocolate chips in a microwave at 20-second intervals until completely melted and smooth.

Pour the melted chocolate into the chess mold, refrigerate until solid, then pop out of the molds.

Sprinkle the tops of the cupcakes with sea salt, then add the chocolate chess pieces on top.

Break the white chocolate and semisweet chocolate bars into squares and arrange on a flat surface to resemble a chess board. Place the decorated cupcakes on top to serve.
