Chrissie Zullo has created some really cool original artwork exclusively for Fandango, like her Women of Star Wars, Deadpool and Wonder Woman pieces, but it was her Labyrinth print below that we have a soft spot for. The piece beautifully captures David Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth; Jennifer Connelly as Sarah, the distraught sister who must journey through the Labyrinth to rescue her baby brother; and Ludo, Hoggle and the rest of the magical creatures she encounters along the way.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Jim Henson's cult classic, Zullo shared her amazing artwork along with the inspiration behind the piece.
"The first time I saw Labyrinth, I completely fell in love with the world and its characters," said Zullo. "On the surface, the movie is a fantasy adventure film, with magical creatures and a fantastical world ruled by a goblin king. The movie to me, though, is more about the growth and trials and tribulations of a girl coming of age. Sarah is a flawed, stubborn girl who is brought into a world where she has to take responsibility for every action she makes, is forced to make sacrifices, and learns what it means to grow up."
Zullo also explained the intricate process for creating the print: "When drawing this piece, I wanted to pay tribute to the awesome concept and designs of Brian Froud, and create a montage piece of all of my favorite characters from the movie. It was drawn out and colored with ink wash, then scanned in and colored digitally, and finally toward the end, I added the Labyrinth maze in the background. I just hope that, when people view this piece, they can look at different parts and remember their favorite scenes and lines from the movie, and if they start singing 'you remind me of the babe' well, that's okay, too."
