Sony Pictures is moving forward with the much-speculated sequel to Angelina Jolie's 2010 spy-thriller Salt. Jolie is also on board for a second stint as Evelyn Salt pending approval of Kurt Wimmer's script. Wimmer wrote the first installment of Salt, which found Jolie's CIA agent on the run after a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy. Wimmer's other works include Law Abiding Citizen, the upcoming Total Recall remake, and he created the fictional fighting style called Gun Kata in Ultraviolet and Equilibrium.

The possibility of a sequel was always there following the climactic end of the first movie, directed by Philip Noyce. It's unclear if Noyce will return to direct the sequel. The director is attached to several projects including Hunter Killer, a story about Navy SEALs sent to rescue the Russian president, as well as a remake of Bloodpsort.
Salt grossed nearly $300 million worldwide last summer which was good news for Sony, who, aside from Men in Black and Spider-Man, are lacking in terms of a bankable franchise. Underworld 4 and a second Ghost Rider are on the schedule for 2012, but there's no telling how those franchises will perform.
What do you think? Are you up for more butt-kicking Angelina Jolie on the run?
