It seems like every week another popular actress is up for the role of Marilyn Monroe in some steamy biopic, but now the big guns look to be coming out for what could be the most talked-about Monroe movie of them all. Those keeping track at home of all the different Marilyn Monroe projects twirling around Hollywood should know that as of now we’re at two (and looking to add a third). The first Monroe film is supposedly set to star Michelle Williams as the actress and focus on a single week in her life when she was shooting The Prince and the Showgirl with Laurence Olivier. The second is based on Joyce Carol Oates’ bestselling 2000 historical novel chronicling the inner life of Monroe, starring Naomi Watts as the Hollywood beauty.

Angelina Jolie to star as Marilyn Monroe?

Now, though, a third project is trying to inch its way along. This one is based on Andrew O’Hagan’s novel The Life and Opinions of Maf the Dog, and of His Friend Marilyn Monroe. Yes, for those of you at home looking sideways at your screen, this is a novel told through the eyes of Monroe’s dog. Fun! Woof! And to make it all the more interesting, O’Hagan has apparently announced that Angelina Jolie will play Monroe in the feature film version, with George Clooney tapped to play Frank Sinatra.

The news does sound a little odd – as if O’Hagan was asked who his dream cast would be and that somehow got turned into a very real news story – but if there’s any truth to it at all, Jolie’s participation would obviously move this Monroe biopic right to the front of the pack, even without the Clooney as Sinatra news.

What do you think? Would Jolie make a good Monroe? Which one of these three projects would you be most interested in watching?
