Just today alone we’ve posted two trailers involving alien-related storylines, and a slew more are scheduled to hit theaters over the next two years. Obviously vampires are beginning to pass the trend torch over to aliens, and eventually they’ll pass the torch to something else. We may not be showing alien fatigue yet, but by the time Sam Raimi brings us his alien invasion flick, we might be drained. Then again, it’s Sam Raimi … and, well, it’s Sam Raimi. I’d watch Sam Raimi paint houses for two hours.

Sam Raimi

Vulture tells us that Raimi and District 9 producer Bill Block are currently negotiating a deal to set up a huge alien-related movie called EDF (or Earth Defense Force). Basically the plot involves aliens attacking earth to test our defense systems before returning 10 months later with a much larger fleet to wipe out the planet for good. The film takes place over those ten months as government and military officials rush to design the sort of weapons that could withstand another major attack.

It sounds pretty cool, and though chances are high that Raimi won’t be directing this himself, hopefully they’ll get someone who’ll do things a little differently. Knowing Raimi’s involved, though, is a good thing. He’ll definitely help add his signature freak onto this thing.

Are you already tired of alien movies, or would you welcome more?
