The Conjuring / Tucker and Dale vs. Evil

The history of horror movies is filled with classic individual characters, as well as a fair number of unlikely horror team-ups. Far less common in the horror field, however, are team-ups by two characters, as in the countless buddy cop movies and the innumberable comedy pairings.

In the past, British production company Hammer teamed up Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing in a slew of movies. Where, then, are their modern equivalents? We've selected our favorites below; let us know your picks in the comments below.

The Conjuring (2013)

Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) are not just a loving married couple, they have been working together for years as paranormal investigators, and it shows. They are courageous and always have each other's back, united by a bond of love and common purpose.

Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (2010)

The titular twosome, played winningly by Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine, are longtime best friends. They enjoy each other's company, have a similar sense of humor, and are always ready to help each other out. Even when they come under attack by college students who mistake them for serial killers, they remain relentlessly optimistic, and true friends.

Underworld (2003)

Selene (Kate Beckinsale) is a vampire, and fully preoccupied with a centuries-long battle with the Lycans (werewolves). When she crosses paths with Michael (Scott Speedman), teaming up is the last thing on her mind, but they end up together, in more ways than one.

Bride of Chucky (1998)

Chucky's in love! Before his soul ended up inside a doll, Chucky teamed with Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly) in love and murder. Longing for a reunion, Tiffany brings Chucky back to life. Things get more complicated from there, but suffice it to say that you're never seen a horror pairing like this one.

Heavenly Creatures (1994)

Pauline (Melanie Lynskey) and Juliet (Kate Winslet) are teenagers in 1950s New Zealand who become fast friends. They share more than common interests, though, and as their indulgence in fantasy grows, their friendship teeters into a romantic obsession that takes on a very dangerous edge. Peter Jackson directed this eerie and quiet horror movie.

The People Under the Stairs (1991)

What is the relationship between Everett McGill and Wendy Robie, who live together in a big old creepy house in a blighted neighborhood? And why are they so rude to their neighbors? Wes Craven's imaginative horror thriller raises social issues and also examines the complexities of a relationship that is anything but normal.
