What is Flag Wars about?
This documentary portrait of a community in the throes of change follows the gentrification by white gays and lesbians of a traditionally working class African-American neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio. The film paints a complex portrait of well-meaning gay renovators, seemingly oblivious to the concerns of aging black residents, some of whom hover just above poverty. Demonstrates how the realities of class have pit two communities against each other that might otherwise share an alienation from the cultural mainstream.
