What is Art of Submission about?

After scraping out his meager existence as an auto-mechanic at his father’s garage, Johnny Sanchez (Ernie Reyes Jr.) races across town to train with the biggest dog of them all, heavyweight champion Sensei Gene Gunner (Ving Rhames). Trouble begins when he falls head over heels in love for Julia, the Sensei’s daughter. When they have a child together reality takes a big bite out of Johnny’s dreams. Desperate for income, he enlists as an enforcer for an illegal steroid dealer. His rebellious decision lands him in prison. In prison, Johnny gets paid cash for fighting in “gladiator wars.” For six years, he sends the spoils from these battles to Julia to help raise their son. The psychotic Warden (John Savage) offers Johnny release from prison on the condition that he fights in a ruthless tournament run by eccentric bio-tech billionaire Insou Krang (George Takei). In order to become a true champion, he must put his ego aside and learn to submit to a colorful assortment of mentors.
